Curriculum and Developmentally Appropriate Activities
At Azi Little Blossom Family Daycare, we follow the Montgomery County curriculum to ensure a well-rounded approach to your child's development, covering physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Our curriculum is tailored to each child’s unique needs, interests, and developmental abilities, observed and documented by our experienced teachers. The classroom environment encourages active exploration and meaningful interactions with adults, peers, and materials. Learning experiences and materials are hands-on, engaging, and relevant to children's everyday lives. Each program supports a broad range of developmental abilities and interests, progressively increasing in complexity as children acquire new skills. We offer multicultural, nonsexist experiences, materials, and activities to provide a diverse and inclusive learning environment for all children.
INFANTS:6 weeks - 2 years of age
Infants and toddlers begin learning about the world through sensory experiences and physical exploration. Our infant/toddler program offers age-appropriate activities that promote growth in areas such as sensorimotor skills, language development, cognitive awareness, and both fine and gross motor skills. We emphasize frequent interactions through speaking, singing, and reading, while offering a stimulating environment with varied objects for exploration.
Toddlers: 2-6 Years of Age
At Azi Little Blossom Family Daycare, we follow the Montgomery County curriculum to provide a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program for toddlers. This stage is crucial for developing social skills, expanding vocabulary, and fostering independence. Our toddler program is designed to support these key areas of growth while meeting each child’s unique developmental needs. Children are encouraged to actively participate in both individual and group conversations, promoting language development and communication skills. We provide opportunities for hands-on exploration of their environment, fostering curiosity and discovery. Learning activities are aligned with the Montgomery County curriculum and focus on promoting early literacy, math, and problem-solving skills through play-based learning.
Social-Emotional Development:
Our program emphasizes building strong social-emotional foundations, helping children develop self-regulation, empathy, and cooperative behaviors. Through group play and peer interaction, children learn essential skills such as sharing, turn-taking, and conflict resolution. Teachers guide toddlers in managing frustration and developing resilience, promoting healthy self-esteem and emotional well-being.
Language and Communication Skills:
Toddlers are immersed in a language-rich environment where they are spoken to frequently, read to daily, and engaged in songs and storytelling. These activities help expand their vocabulary, improve listening skills, and support early language development. Teachers model and encourage the use of new words and phrases to help children communicate more effectively with their peers and adults.
Cognitive and Problem-Solving Abilities:
Aligned with Montgomery County’s curriculum, our program introduces early concepts in math, science, and critical thinking. Children engage in activities that encourage sorting, counting, measuring, and pattern recognition, laying the foundation for future learning. Problem-solving is incorporated through hands-on experiences that challenge children to explore cause-and-effect relationships and make predictions.
Physical Development:
We provide a variety of activities to promote both fine and gross motor skills. Toddlers are encouraged to practice self-help skills such as feeding themselves, washing their hands, and dressing. Gross motor activities include outdoor play, where children run, climb, and engage in physical exercises to enhance coordination and strength. Fine motor skills are developed through activities like drawing, building with blocks, and manipulating small objects.
Toilet Training and Independence:
Toilet training is a key milestone for this age group, and our program offers a supportive, individualized approach. Teachers work closely with each family to ensure a smooth transition to independence in this area. Alongside toilet training, children are encouraged to develop self-help skills such as dressing, feeding themselves, and cleaning up after activities, fostering independence and responsibility.
Multicultural Awareness and Inclusivity:
Our curriculum also emphasizes the importance of multicultural and nonsexist experiences. Toddlers are introduced to a variety of cultural traditions and practices, helping them develop an appreciation for diversity. Classroom activities, books, and materials reflect a wide range of cultures and perspectives, promoting inclusivity and respect for all.
